As to rules, here is what the official VT251 web site says:
We like to say we are a club with “no rules”. It is up to our members how they visit all of Vermont’s cities and towns, how long it takes them, and how they document their visits. Although 251 journeys are all different, one thing our members have in common is the many cherished memories and discoveries that are created along the way! We also work on the honor code, so members do not need to take pictures for us to verify that they have visited towns and cities (although many members like to take pictures for themselves). Once members have completed their 251 quest, members let us know, and we will send an official letter of congratulations, a finisher’s decal, and include them in an upcoming newsletter if they choose.
As an FYI to non-Vermonters, as of July 1st 2022, there are 252 cities, towns and gores in Vermont as Essex Junction split off from Essex on that date.
For us we like to have some bit of remembrance that we were in a particular town so we try to take a picture of at least one of the following places in a town:
- City Hall
- Town Clerks Office
- Public Library
- Post Office
- Fire Department
- Town Sign
